What is Lactic Acid? Lactic Acid (chemical formula C3H6O3) is an organic acid that occurs naturally in muscles and certain foods, particularly dairy products. It is a colourless liquid with a mild acidic taste and is known for its ability to act as a preservative, pH regulator, and chelating agent.
High-Quality Formulation: Our Lactic Acid meets the requirements for pharmaceutical grade and food grade classification with both the ACS (American Chemical Society) and FCC (Food Chemicals Codex) respectively.
Shipped from Manchester, UK Facility: Sourced and bottled in non-toxic, chemical-resistant containers, ensuring reliable quality for our customers.
Frequent Uses
Chemical Reactions and Synthesis
Can be used as a precursor in polymer production. Two molecules of lactic acid can be dehydrated to the lactone lactide. In the presence of catalysts, lactide polymerises to either atactic or syndiotactic polylactide (PLA), which are biodegradable polyesters. PLA is an example of a plastic that is not derived from petrochemicals.
Cleaning and Descaling
Popular choice for removing limescale from kettles, coffee makers, and bathroom fixtures. It provides a gentler alternative to harsher acids while being highly effective.
