What is Barium Peroxide? It is a white, inorganic peroxide that serves as a strong oxidising agent, with uses in bleaching, as an ingredient in igniting mixtures, and in chemical synthesis. It was the first peroxide compound discovered and is a potential fire and explosion hazard when in contact with organic materials. It also produces a distinct green colour when it burns, a characteristic of all barium compounds.
